BIOGRAPHY
Paris born, a pupil of Ramey, Toussaint & Dumont; commenced exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1859; made a chevalier of the Legion d’honneur in 1867; director of the Geneva School of art in 1867; director of the Institut Francaise in 1891. Published his autobiography, ‘Between two blows of a Chisel’ in 1892.
