Marine de Soos The Curved Boards, Bronze Sculpture 21st century
The Curved Boards (Les planches courbes) is an artwork by French contemporary sculptor Marine de Soos. This bronze sculpture is from the “Figure” series.
This figurative work of art represents a stilt-hut, boasting a long gently sloping ladder, comprised of precariously placed bits of wood. On the huts porch a young man is lying on his stomach holding his head in his hands. A position that evokes day-dreaming or contemplation.
Marine de Soos has long sustained an openness to the world which permeates her career and her work. For each sculpture the artist draws her inspiration from her souvenirs, those of African and Asian landscapes.
Whatever the initial image, there is always an emotion attached: “I can only work when I am in an emotional state,” says the artist. Emotion as sole guide and at the finish line, an invitation on a voyage steeped in a unique poetry which sends the observer into a state of contemplation.
