4 fine-dining fixes at home
Founded in 2015 as a luxury alternative to takeaway apps, according to howtospendit.ft.com, London-based Supper delivers food from a judicious selection of restaurants, and the past few weeks have prompted a flurry of new clients. Among these are Michelin-starred Hide, award-winning restaurant group Hakkasan, Benares, Duck & Waffle and Roka. With an average spend of £130 and a 2.5-mile delivery cap, Supper is as exclusive as they come. But it won’t be long until the app follows its international bank of restaurants around the globe, says founder Peter Georgiou, who launched the company after experiencing the thriving delivery market in New York. Wait times for Carbone, the Manhattan Italian eatery, are so notorious that when its Michelin-starred fare appeared on US delivery app Caviar, the restaurant was met by a hungry mob of prospective orderers and forced to lock its doors. The lights are back on, but those looking to supplement their addiction to Carbone’s $69 veal Parmesan can now choose from a host of other new options. Cote, a Korean barbecue steakhouse, joined the app on 24 March, closely followed by Marea, a seafood and fresh pasta joint on Central Park South. Both restaurants hold Michelin stars. Alongside its more traditional delivery options, takeaway stalwart Deliveroo has also been updating its roll of restaurants. In London, one of the app’s more exciting recruits is Macellaio, a string of six Italian eateries offering drops of trenette al pesto, grilled fish and house-baked breads from three of its locations. Equally promising is the addition of dim sum teahouse Yauatcha and Casa do Frango, a Portuguese eatery with branches in Shoreditch and London Bridge. deliveroo.co.uk
A number of restaurants are now taking orders directly. Over the past few weeks, Tom Dixon’s Coal Office has been operating as a “fresh food hub”. Each day, it posts a new recipe on Instagram that diners can choose to order as a meal or set of ingredients. Similarly, at Whitechapel Gallery’s newly opened Townsend, head chef Joe Fox has reconfigured his signature dishes into a delivery-friendly format. Also supporting the London scene are Hackney wine bar The Laughing Heart and Jackson Boxer’s Orasay, a fish-focused restaurant in Notting Hill.
